National AIDS Co-ordination Committee (NACC) Meeting Held

National AIDS Co-ordination Committee (NACC) meeting held in Teku Kathmandu today. Honourable State Minister for Health and Population Mr. Khadka Bahadur Basyal chaired the meeting. Minister Khadka suggested work in the co-ordinated approach among all important stakeholders in building effective response to HIV and AIDS in Nepal.

Dr. Sudha Sharma, Secretary of Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Yeshu Bardhan Pradhan, Director General of Department of Health Services, Dr. Laxmi Raj Pathak, Chief Public Health Administrator cum Chief of Planning and Foreign Co-ordination Division of MoHP, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Member of Constitution Assembly, Dr. Chop Lal Bhushal, Chairperson Nepal Health Research Council and many other participants from National Planning Commission, other ministries, civil society organizations, private sectors, and representatives from external development partners attended the meeting.

Dr. Krishna Kumar Rai, member secretary of NACC cum Director of National Centre for AIDS and STD Control (NCASC) briefed the progress made so far in fight against HIV and AIDS in Nepal. Dr. Rai further shared the challenges faced by NCASC while implementing the programmes so the NACC can suggest possible solutions. One of the key challenges share was constraints in decentralizing HIV and AIDS care services in Nepal and some confusion with other structures, primarily due to overlapping of responsibilities.

The meeting suggested delineating clear policy guidance to NCASC and reducing the confusions of overlapping responsibilities in performing the day to day works effectively.
